Required Bug Fixes

You may encounter problems caused by other system software when using DPCL.
If you encounter the problems described below, you should install the maintenance described as a fix for the problem.

Fixes for other IBM software can be obtained by clicking here, or by contacting IBM software support.

Problem:

System crashes when DPCL creates 64 bit apps on some AIX 5.1 and AIX 5.2 systems. The system crash will be accompanied by LED codes 888 102 300 0c0. This problem appears when a DPCL client attempts to load a 64 bit application.

Solution:

Install the PTF (fix) for APARs IY37440 for AIX 5.1 or IY37446 for AIX 5.2 as appropriate.

Problem:

The DPCL daemon is not notified when the target application receives a SIGTRAP signal. This is applicable to AIX 5.2 only.

Solution:

Install the PTF (fix) for APAR IY39687.

Problem:

Loading a 64 bit application under ptrace control can crash 32 bit kernel on AIX 5.1 systems

Solution:

Install the PTF (fix) for APAR IY40541

Problem:

DPCL encountered problems instrumenting some applications running on Power 3 hardware with a 64 bit kernel. This includes instrumenting applications running under control of the IBM Parallel Environment product.

Solution:

For AIX 5.2 install the PTF for APAR IY72151

For AIX 5.3 install the PTF for APAR IY72156

Problem:

DPCL will randomly fail when attempting to add probes to an application when running at the AIX 5.3E or later level

Solution:

Install the fix for APAR IY82691

Problem

DPCL daemon fails with SIGSEGV due to memory overlay. This results in the client terminating with an ASC_communication_failure status.

Solution:

Install the fix for APAR IY80008

Problem:

A DPCL client that is attempting to load a parallel application using the PoeAppl::create() function will hang in that function.

Solution:

Install the fix for APAR IY83782
